What I Offer

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change. - Carl Rogers

Is counselling right for me?

Many people find that it really helps to talk to someone who is specially trained to listen, who is not personally involved in the way a friend or family might be. I know how hard it can be, however, to take that first step and that’s why I offer a 30 minute initial consultation free of charge. It’s an opportunity for you and I to meet and discover if this is right for both of us. I say ‘both of us’ because research, overwhelmingly, suggests that relationship quality is one of the most important contributing factors in the effectiveness of counselling. It is a collaboration and we’ll both be working hard so it’s important that it feels right from the very beginning. You won’t have to decide there and then though. You can go away and think about it and let me know later.

What kinds of things do you deal with?

Here are just a few examples:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • Eating distress
  • Loneliness
  • Anger
  • Low self-esteem/loss of confidence
  • Relationships
  • Trauma
  • Personal development
  • Addictions
  • Loss

I want to try an initial consultation. What do I have to do?

You can phone me for an informal chat. I’ll ask you for some brief details about what brings you to counselling, we can fix an appointment that’s mutually convenient and I’ll give you the address. If I’m not available when you call please leave a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Alternatively you can send me an email asking me any questions and I’ll respond by email or phone, whichever you prefer.

Is it confidential?

Yes, of course. I work from home in a secure space where you can be assured of privacy. Confidentiality is absolute unless I have serious concerns for your (or another’s safety). But I would always seek to discuss the matter with you first. I am guided by the BACP Ethical Framework in this regard.

How much does it cost?

Initial consultation (intake session) Free per 30 minutes
Following sessions £40 per hour

Sessions are for 1 hour and usually take place at the same time each week. Missed sessions will be charged for unless you are able to give me 36 hours notice.

When are appointments available?

I work Monday-Thursday 9-5. But if this doesn’t suit please ask. I am always prepared to be flexible.

How can I check that you are a qualified counsellor?

There is no statutory regulation in place for the counselling/psychotherapy profession. However I am a Registered Member of the BACP and you can confirm this by looking me up on their website.
